13 Chester Street
The summer I was sixteen, I fronted a band called 13 Chester Street.
The name was pulled from a song on a record by The Pretty Things. It wasn't
a great band, but the guitarist very obviously listened to every album by
The Jam on a continuous loop, the drummer I recall was a huge fan of Slade,
and I myself was very much into Specimen and Alien Sex Fiend, and personally,
I think that essentially summed up the sound.
As much as I would love to have the mp3's available from that period of
my life, only one recording was ever cut, and long story short, it didn't
survive a house party the following school year. When I returned the following
summer to record new songs, and I'd written a couple (not bad for somebody
who can barely noodle out a chord progression), they were either deeply
involved with new bands or just weren't interested.
Fortunately, nobody else is using the band name and as I'm reforming a
new band under the same moniker, this space will be updated.
