Buttons

In the Ann Arbor & Ypsilanti, Michigan area, I'm well-known for making 1" round pinback buttons / badges with various Mod and Punk band logos, SubGenius-style clip-art, and ancient Hellenic art. If you live in the area, then you probably saw my buttons at Star Vintage and The GetUp in State Street. Unfortunately, I do not carry them there anymore -- I ended my deal with Star for personal reasons, and the owner of the GetUp ended our consignment contract due to a desire to focus exclusively on vintage clothing. I do still have a contract with The GetUp to make the "freebie" buttons that are given away at the register.

I still sell Mod &c badges at Direct Hits special events. If you live outside the Ann Arbor / Ypsilanti area, you can purchase most of my designs through my Etsy Shop — I update the shop late every Tuesday (and I mean late, lik 11.55PM GMT-0500).

I do take custom orders for buttons, and offer one of the best deals to A2/Ypsi locals — 100 buttons for $25 with no delivery charge (as long as either you come to pick them up or I can deliver them to your home or business personally, during the hours the bus operates). I can do orders for out-of-towners for $5 plus a $2.50 shipping cost for orders up to 250.

If you would like to have me do a custom order of badges for you, I will warn you, I have a very "soup Nazi"-like order process at the moment, and if you simply can't be arsed to follow my directions, I won't do it. I don't care how much you're willing to pay, but it's a very simple order process and nothing frustrates me more than people who can't be arsed to follow the most basic directions when they're asking me to do something for them — not being very fond of money, in concept or reality, the price of buttons I charge is to cover my cost for supplies and give myself a few bucks for my time. Considering the cost of my parts and the time it takes me to complete most custom orders, start to finish, I'm not even making minimum wage on these buttons, so don't even tell me that you're "paying me" and somehow this absolves you from having to read and follow directions.

That out of the way, this is my order process:

  • E-mail me with your order request — tell me how many you want (minimum bulk order: 50) and how many of each design (minimum 25 per design). ALSO: you must include a JPEG or PNG (though I prefer JPEG) file of every image you would like on a button. Your JPEG (or PNG — I will not accept GIFs) must be a minimum of 150dpi and be a size no smaller than 300x300px. If you simply have a phrase you would like on a button, write it out clearly and tell me both text and background colours, and whether or not you want the background colour in gradient. Please state where you live, and if you are A2/Ypsi-local, state whether or not you will be able to pick this order up -or- if you live near an AATA bus route so that I can deliver it to your home or business.
  • DO NOT send money to my e-mail address via PayPal at this point yet — if you send money this early on, I will assume that you just think I should have it simply because I'm so awesome. Unless you think I'm awesome enough to have your money without making buttons for you, don't send me money at this point.
  • I will then send you an e-mail confirming your order request. After that, I will spend maybe an hour in PhotoShop adjusting your image to my badge template and print-size requirements. If your image will work within the confines of my template and print out clearly and with all words legible at an arm's length, then I will e-mail you with a brief statement that I shall take your order — in this statement, I will include full price of your order (shipping included). ON THE OTHER HAND, the image(s) you sent may not work with my template or may not print clearly as a 1" diameter circle held at arm's length — if that's the case, I will reject your order request and explain why. You can feel free to send a different image or, by all means, try your luck with somebody who doesn't care how shitty something looks, as long as you pay him.
  • After I send you an e-mail with the cost THEN you can send money to [rowan (at) sexyhobbitsuperstar (dot) com] via PayPal.
  • Then I have my magical elves complete your order. For less than minimum wage. You slave-driver. I should report you to the United Nations for human rights violations.
  • After your order is completed, I will send you an e-mail. The Monday after your e-mail, I will go to my local post office and mail it out to you. I do not do delivery confirmations on my own dime, so if you want it, add $1.50 to your payment.
  • If your order arrives and you still aren't happy, I can only refund half of your payment — the rest is to cover most of my parts and supplies costs. You can either keep it or return it, your choice.

That said, feel free to place an order for custom buttons.
